digg: Startup Uses Military Tech to Fix Low Res Video

This article was recently posted on digg. I love to see Military technology making it into the hands of the consumer:

Motion DSP is creating a simple web based interface that will significantly enhance low res, camera phone video into surprisingly high quality stuff. It started off in 1998 as a U.S. military funded project at UC Santa Cruz. In January 2005, Professor Peyman Milanfar, the primary researcher behind the technology, co-founded Motion DSP.

Rant: Pre-Season in the NFL means nothing

Currently the pre-season Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers game is delayed due to bad weather conditions in Ohio. The Bengals are winning 41-10, there is 9 minutes left. This gives the prefect opportunity to let out a Rant that I was planning on writing a little later. Pre-season in the NFL does not mean anything. Here’s why: Green Bay doesn’t play Cincinnati during the regular season. In the NFL it is impossible to have an extremely dominant team and hold it together.

It’s a world where a team can go from 4-12 to 12-4 (San Diego Chargers 2003 to 2004 Season). So, everyone must realize something very simple. The first thing is to win your division. Green Bay’s defense has not been built to match up against Cincinnati. Players don’t watch game film from Cincinnati. It would not do them any good. This is the bottom line. So to all of you out there. SHUT UP! The Green Bay Packers can go 12-4, and I still believe they’ll win the NFC North this year. (see my NFL Predictions thread)

Rant: Leave Terrell Owens alone (and everyone else)

I’m kinda in a Rant mode at the moment. This one is about Terrell Owens. The media seriously needs to leave him alone. I think that part of the problem with him is that he is the type of guy that wants the attention, he craves it. What would happen if the interviews stopped. If they just talked about his on the field performance and moved on. They make him seem like such a horrible person, and the fact that Koreen Robinson got drunk and broke the speed limit by 30MPH barely makes second page news.

It is terrible. Even, the thing with Koreen Robinson. These are football players. I completely understand if personal lives get in the way of the game and effect their performance. It is the right of the fan to know why this is, and it is the right of the coach to cut them. Owens though is an awesome player, he will continue to play at a high level, and he is a role model too so many, and the NFL Media is ruining it. If anyone in the media is reading this, please just stop.

Rant: Helio is a Phone+Phone Company

I see these commercials all the time, for Helio. It’s a cool new phone with a camera and the ability to send them to myspace really quickly. I bought a phone more then 2 years ago that had a color screen, camera, and internet. Technology evolves! A phone with a bigger color screen that has specialized internet abilities is just that. It’s main purpose is still phone, so it’s a phone. (That’s a period.) I did my research and it seems Helio actually uses CDMA and 1xEV-DO networks which were originally designed in 1999-2000, so the technology is not new. Supposedly Helio is geared towards a more technology savvy audience, and is a niche product. As far as I am concerned they are the dumbest company in the world. I consider myself a pretty technology savvy person. GSM and Cingular, who totally admits that they’re a phone company that operates on a telephone network is a far better company. As for phones? The Motorola RAZR and SLVR are the best phones in my opinion.

So with that said, If I see the Helio commercial 1 more time I think I am going to throw my TV out the window. HELIO IS A F-ING PHONE COMPANY AND THEY SELL PHONES!

The Day After 1 Month

So, it’s the day after my blog just turned 1 month old. As far as my previous post goes, I did start feeling better, and all is pretty good right now. I guess now that my blog is a month old I am pretty satisfied with it. You probably will see less ‘update’ posts in less it is something drastic. Soon enough, I will make a ‘plugins apexad.net uses’ post though.

As for what’s been going on in my life..school starts back up soon. I’ve had no alcohol (ok, 1 sip to try a new beer) since August 12th (for no reason in particular, just because I can). I’ve recently put up Joint Apexad’s Garage World which is basically a Joint site that features all my products and friends. I’m keeping it ad free (my only site that is), so please feel free to stop by and look at it. Otherwise nothing really special happening in my life.

Watch out for a new movie review very soon, and yeah, it’s a Keira Knightley movie.
